120 hours of community classroom (volunteer hours) is needed to receive a certificate of completion in the class
Attendance: Regular attendance is a requirement – your progress and grade will depend on it. A maximum of 3 lecture absences has been established, after which you may be dropped from the class. Some consideration is available, check with me.
Tardiness: Being late to class once or twice is understandable, however habitual lateness is disruptive & discourteous and will not be tolerated. Please let me know if this is a problem.
Class Format: This course will include demonstration, PowerPoint lecture, audiovisual presentation, group sessions, hands-on-training, laboratory work and off-campus field trips.
Evaluation: Methods of evaluation include practical & laboratory skills evaluation, weekly/biweekly exams, written reports and a comprehensive final which must be passed with 70% to receive a certificate of completion.
Grading: A = 90 – 100 %
B = 80 – 89 %
C = 70 – 79 %
Below 70 % is considered a failing grade. The final grade is arrived by averaging all tests, reports, skills and the final. You must take and pass the final with 70% to be awarded the class Competencies and Certificate of Completion.
Make-up Work: If you are absent from class, it is your responsibility to ask your fellow students to determine class notes & assignments missed. Late tests and assignments will not be accepted. Do not expect the instructor to review past assignments for your benefit. Do not call the instructor to catch you up. If you know you will be missing a class ahead of time, ask your student partners to save notes and quizzes for you, since they may not be available when you return. Due to the dates and times of the fieldtrips, you are allowed to make- up missed fieldtrips with written reports or the equivalent.
Community Classroom (CC) or Cooperative Vocational Education (CVE):
Community Classroom is an un-paid volunteer experience. Cooperative Vocational Education is a paid volunteer-ship. 120 hours of either CC or CVE is required to get a Certificate of Completion in this class. It is recommended that you think ahead regarding the commitments of volunteering. It is like having a job. Strict deadlines for the paperwork involved are in place. If you do not turn your time sheets in, in a timely manner your hours will not count. Students completing 120 – 300 hours of CC or CVE will receive Certificates of Completion. Students that do not complete the hours will only receive a letter of the competencies acquired in the class.
